Sitting here thinking... from Linda

Just sitting here remembering our times together, especially our escapades! As we got older we would often have a coffee together and talk about our early days when we looked at life through rose coloured spectacles as most young ones do before life gets in the way. I remember so vividly our first time away together, I was 15 and Bev 18 when we decided we would take our beloved Isetta bubble car and tour Cornwall. Very progressive of our parents in those days to trust us to let us go but my Dad adored Bev and looked on him as the son he never had (being saddled with 3 daughters!) and trusted him to look after me.  I don't know how our little, cramped bubble car had room for us and luggage and everything else but we managed somehow and off we popped..... we saw some lovely coastal areas and grabbed bed and breakfast as we travelled but one night we couldn't get anywhere so slept in the bubble car! My goodness but it gets cold in Cornwall at night and as the mists rolled in at 5am that is when Bev got his first signs of the really bad asthma that was to plague him for the rest of his life..... then the name of which I now forget, we had to navigate the huge, long drag of the famous hill in Cornwall which in those days was always catching people out.... three attempts we had to make before we could get our little tiny car up the hill and over the other side. It just didn't have enough 'oomph' but Bev would not be defeated and we made it! And for the rest of our hols our car didn't miss a beat and got us home safe and sound...

And another memory we had a laugh about recently was when we were on our way somewhere, again in our bubble car, and as we approached some traffic lights at Guildford, the engine started making a really loud banging noise. Bev pulled into the side of the road, got out and opened up the engine compartment (which was like a trap door on the side of the car) and the engine fell out into his lap!!!!! All the mountings holding it in place had sheared....... but again, the wonderful, innovative boy that he was told me to take off my tights or probably stockings in those days  (!) and with those and the help of some other bits he had in the car, he 'locked and tied' the engine back into place and it got us all the way home again!!! Oh the happy, carefree days of youth and the first great loves of your life......
